An answer and the solution to your problem

Weld Testing

Essential industry component

Welds are an essential component of many industries such as construction, automotive, fabrication, oil and gas, aviation, and many more. AMS offers independent third party weld testing services to cover:

weld invigilation, welder qualification testing and welding procedure qualification.

Testing

Testing is carried out to meet the requirements of national and international standards such as BS EN ISO 15614-1, 2, BSEN ISO 9606 parts 1 and 2, ASME IX, AWS D1.1, and many more. Testing to the above specifications is UKAS accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Materials that we test include but are not limited to carbon steels, stainless steels, nickel alloys, aluminum alloys.

The welding procedure is reviewed in detail, then testing and inspection is performed on welds produced in accordance with the procedure to verify all requirements are met. Weld coupon testing often includes a visual examination, mechanical testing, metallographic examination, and nondestructive testing. AMS may also assist with preparation of Welding Procedure Qualification as per client or project requirements.

After confirmation that a welding procedure meets a specified standard, welders may be qualified for the procedure. This involves conducting tests on the weld to ensure it was produced to specification, correct filler material was used and the weld joint is aligned accurately. The welder qualification test is generally required to support welder certification.

We offer welding invigilation services along with recognised third party organisations.  We offer a Third Party Independent, Impartial Verification of welding processes whether that is a welding procedure qualification or a welder qualification. This can be conducted at your premises or sites to meet the requirements of many standards.

What if your work is to be used under the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)? Again that is not a problem. With assistance from our BS EN ISO 17020 accredited suppliers, highly trained and qualified invigilators will provide invigilation and test pieces can be directed to our test lab for both Non Destructive (NDT) and destructive mechanical testing in accordance with American, British and European codes and standards.
